Rosendale, NY, OCTOBER 16, 2014 – As fall arrives and temperatures drop, higher energy bills are around the corner. Join RUPCO at Rosendale’s Creative Co-op on Wednesday, October 29, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Learn about do-it-yourself home energy-saving tips, as well as free or reduced-cost home energy assessments and incentives for home energy-efficiency upgrades through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Michael D’Arcy, Outreach Coordinator from RUPCO’s Green Jobs – Green New York Team, will present “Get SET: Save Energy Together,” while Creative Co-op hosts free children’s eco-craft activities so that parents can participate in the presentation. Light food will be served. RSVP to Stacy Lipari by email atcbcofrosendale@gmail.com or call (845) 527-5672.
“Get SET” covers easy, cost-effective approaches residents can pursue on their own to save energy and reduce utility bills. D’Arcy will also show attendees how homeowners can schedule a comprehensive home energy assessment through NYSERDA, which is free to most New York State residents. The event will also show participants how to obtain financing and income-based grants through the NYSERDA program as well. Throughout the session, D’Arcy will describe how he has provided assistance to homeowners interested in the program and offers recommendations on how to engage contractors who perform upgrades. “It’s a very accessible program that everyone should know about,” says D’Arcy, “where 92% of New Yorkers qualify for a free, comprehensive energy assessment. In Ulster County, if your gross household income is less than $142,600, you’re eligible for a free, comprehensive home energy assessment.”
As an environmentally conscious parent, Creative Co-op owner Stacy Lipari wanted to do something to help families save energy at home. She met Michael D’Arcy from RUPCO at the Zero Waste Day in New Paltz and signed up as a volunteer “Energy Advocate” with RUPCO’s Green Jobs – Green New York Team to host an energy-efficiency presentation at her business. Lipari and D’Arcy agree that the Creative Co-op is the perfect place to invite parents to learn about saving energy while their children enjoy a fun activity.
Creative Co-op is easy to find. “Behind the Big Cheese in Rosendale, you’ll find the cozy, family-friendly event space – we are located just south of the FREE municipal parking lot off 402 Main Street,” says Lipari. “Enter around the front of the building.” For more information, visit Creative Co-op’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CreativeBCRosendale) or call for directions.
