Tomorrow’s Workplace (TWP), Rockland County’s Certified Workforce Development Center, Gateway to Entrepreneurial Tomorrows (GET), and RUPCO’s Green Jobs-Green NY Program jointly announce Rockland County’s first “Green Companies, Green Jobs Business Networking Breakfast”. The groundbreaking event will take place on Friday, October 3rd from 8:00 – 9:30 am at TWP’s Workforce Development Center located at 1 Perlman Dr. Spring Valley, NY 10977. This event will serve as an excellent opportunity to advise green businesses of our workforce development training initiatives and to further educate businesses in our community about business services available free of charge at Tomorrows Workplace, and through GET and other regional organizations.
Through a grant from the NYS Department of Labor, GET is offering free scholarships to long-term unemployed individuals to learn and empower themselves in becoming more employable through growing opportunities offered in the green sector of the economy. “Partnering with TWP and Rockland County’s Labor Department is a natural extension of our mission to help unemployed individuals acquire new jobs and skills necessary in today’s workplace,” says Enrique Rob Lunski, President of GET, a nonprofit organization celebrating ten years of service in the Hudson Valley.
Since the passing of the Green Jobs-Green New York Act in 2009, New York State has made a commitment to promote energy efficiency and the installation of clean technologies to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. This program supports sustainable community development and creates opportunities for green jobs. With this statewide effort green companies are growing and green jobs are becoming more in demand. Organizations like TWP, GET, and RUPCO have been promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and green jobs locally in Rockland County and the rest of the Hudson Valley.
Those attending the Networking Breakfast will be interested in how they can grow their business within green sector industries, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste, recycling and agriculture. In addition, there may be companies in attendance that are energy smart, utilize renewable energy, reduce emissions, and/or have environmental management programs. The green companies will be able to network with each other along with the workforce developers showcasing their support services. Additionally, workforce developers will facilitate a brief focus group to help identify the hiring needs of each green company. Ultimately, we hope to introduce the unemployed or underemployed of Rockland County to job opportunities with green companies.
