Grow Your Career or Business Through Certification at SUNY Ulster
Contractors interested in adding home energy efficiency expertise and certifications to their money-making skill sets and those exploring new careers helping people save energy can jump start their efforts at SUNY Ulster in January. Even in a stagnant economy, the field of home energy efficiency contracting is expanding rapidly as home and business owners face increasing energy costs.
SUNY Ulster and RUPCO will co-host an orientation presentation:
“Green Jobs – Green New York Training Opportunities”
On Thursday, January 16th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm during the SUNY Ulster Open House at the Business Resource Center, at One Development Court, Ulster Avenue in Kingston. The presentation will highlight SUNY Ulster’s certification courses as a great doorway into successful work in energy efficiency contracting. Contractors or entrepreneurial career changers can become certified through the national Building Professional Institute (BPI) to do energy efficiency retrofits for homeowners under the NYSERDA Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program.
Erlend Kimmich from Conservation Services Group, will speak about the opportunities available through NYSERDA to subsidize certification training courses and initial expenses for contractors to get started in the energy efficiency field. Bill McKnight, owner of local energy efficiency company Energy Conservation Specialists, will speak from a contractor’s perspective about the work available and the general expectations for people entering the field. RUPCO Outreach Coordinator Michael Courtney will explain current marketing outreach through RUPCO’s Green Jobs –Green New York Program and highlight the increasing demand for energy efficiency work in the Hudson Valley that will help contractors grow their businesses.
