Efficiency and Solar: Saving Energy Together in Warwick
A chill is in the air and the coming winter season turns our thoughts to higher electric and fuel bills and drafty rooms. Learn how to save money and be more comfortable inside this winter at the “Efficiency and Solar: Saving Energy Together” workshop, 6:30-7:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 6 at Albert Wisner Library.
The program is jointly sponsored by RUPCO’s Green Jobs-Green New York Program and Sustainable Warwick. The workshop will cover tips on saving energy and NYSERDA’s (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) residential energy efficiency programs for weatherizing homes and adding renewable energy.
First, Meridith Nierenberg of RUPCO’s Green Jobs-Green New York Program will explain the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program, which offers a free or reduced cost comprehensive home energy assessment, a list of certified Home Performance contractors to select from, and the grants, incentives, and low-interest financing available for projects. These options allow you to make your home energy efficient with no money out of pocket. The energy assessment also covers safety issues such as mold and carbon monoxide.
Next, Bill Makofske, the Energize Warwick energy coach, will describe the homeowner technical support services that Sustainable Warwick offers to complement the NYSERDA Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program. Sustainable Warwick grants those who complete a weatherization a $200 donation to a local non-profit of their choice.
Third, Brian Nowitzki of Hudson Solar will discuss how solar works and how you can install solar on your home to generate electricity. Hudson Solar is a New York–based, family-owned business serving upstate New York, western Massachusetts, and southern Vermont. We design and install systems for residential, commercial, agriculture and municipal/non-profit organizations.
Finally, Michael Helme, a local resident and member of Sustainable Warwick, will share his experience upgrading his home’s energy efficiency and adding solar hot water to his home.
